Description

A comforting and satisfying sandwich made with creamy tuna salad and melted cheese, grilled to golden perfection between slices of buttery bread—perfect for a quick and delicious lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (5 oz) cans tuna in water, drained

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise

  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped red onion or green onion

  • 1 tablespoon chopped pickles or relish

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 4 slices of bread (sourdough, white, or whole grain)

  • 4 slices of cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or American)

  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened

Instructions

In a medium bowl, mix tuna, mayonnaise, mustard (if using), onion, pickles, salt, and pepper until well combined.
Butter one side of each slice of bread.
Place 2 slices of bread, butter-side down, on a skillet or griddle. Top each with a slice of cheese, half of the tuna mixture, another slice of cheese, and the remaining bread (butter-side up).
Heat over medium heat until the bottom is golden brown, about 3–4 minutes. Flip carefully and grill the other side until golden and the cheese is melted.
Remove from skillet, let cool slightly, then slice and serve warm.

Notes

Use a panini press for even grilling and melty cheese.
Customize with tomato slices, spinach, or jalapeños for extra flavor.
Tuna mixture can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 2 days.
